Work experience is the short term placement of secondary school students, generally in Year 10, with employers to provide insights into the industry and the workplace in which they are located. It provides students with the valuable opportunity to:
Students are placed with employers primarily to observe and learn – not to undertake activities which require extensive training or expertise.

Students wishing to complete work experience in 2017 may start contacting employers over the upcoming school holidays. Students have been emailed a sample resume and cover letter. Where possible students should consult the company’s website or contact them via telephone prior to their application as many organisations have a specific process for work experience applications.
Students wishing to be considered for Work Experience at Goulburn Valley Base Hospital (GVBH) must apply through the College Workplace Learning and Administration Officer, not directly to the hospital. Further details regarding the application process for GVBH will be emailed to the students at the start of 2017.
If students are accepted by an employer for a work experience placement, they must contact the employer to arrange a time to meet with them and complete theWork Experience Arrangement Form. If the student will be travelling in a vehicle and/or staying away from home during the work experience, aWork Experience Travel and Accommodation Form must also be completed. The new forms (2017) are available in the attachments below. These forms must be fully completed and signed by the parent, student and employer and then submitted to the WLAO to seek approval from the Principal for the placement to proceed. If approved an email will be sent from the Workplace Learning and Administration Officer to the students’ school email address and the parent email address on file to confirm the placement. Completed Work Experience Arrangement Forms ensure that students are covered by the College Public Liability insurance policy in the event of an accident. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the significant risk to all parties in the absence of Principal approved work experience arrangement form, the placement cannot and must not proceed.
Prior to commencing work experience students must also complete the Department of Education and Training (DET) required safe@work modules and associated self-assessment tests. Students must complete the “General” module as well as the most applicable “Industry Specific” module to the industry in which they will be completing their work experience. The certificates for the modules must be printed and attached to the Work Experience Arrangement Forms when submitted to the WLAO. The web address for the safe@work modules is as follows:
In addition to the above requirements, any students completing work experience in the Construction Industry, must hold a valid Construction Induction (CI) White Card. CI card training is available to NDC students at a discounted rate of approximately $80 through GOTAFE in Fryers Street. The (one day) training dates will be published via the student bulletin and newsletter early in 2017 and students need to book in directly with GOTAFE.

The total number of work experience days for a student must not exceed 40 days in a school year, and 10 days during any school term. A Principal can allow a student to undertake work experience for up to 15 days per term, but the total number of days must not exceed 40 days per year.
