Do It For Dolly Day is a national fundraising and awareness campaign dedicated to spreading kindness and fighting against bullying. It honours the memory of Dolly Everett, who tragically took her own life after enduring bullying and cyberbullying. On Friday, May 9, at Emmaus, thanks to the amazing organisation and support from staff (Kate Berry and David Cuzens especially) we raised awareness around bullying and its devastating impact, and provided students with information about where they can get help if they ever need it.
To involve the entire campus, we ran a small activity in PG which involved watching a video and discussing the importance of today. We baked 330+ cupcakes in the Cafe, (thanks to Brett, Heidi, Tess and a team of students) that were covered in blue icing....blue was Dolly's favourite colour.
The cupcakes were delivered to all staff and students to enjoy, and to take a moment to reflect and acknowledge that together, we can create a safer, kinder world, starting with our own school community.
Today also highlights the work of 'Dolly's Dream', an organization committed to changing the culture around bullying and providing support to young people and families. No child or family should have to face the devastating impacts of bullying alone.
