MacKillop and McGann Campaign

As winter sets in, we know that a lot of people in our region will go to sleep tonight without a home. Many young people, in fact, some 80 young teenagers in Shepparton will be homeless tonight....that is EVERY NIGHT.

At Notre Dame College, students from MacKillop and McGann Houses recently met with Jim Gow of Salvation Army Youth Services. After speaking with Jim, it was decided that instead of a blanket drive or donating clothing or sleeping bags, the best way to help those needing support is to provide gift cards. These can then be purchased for essential items.

Over the next few weeks, the students will be raising money for those gift cards via the Mercy Blend Café by selling waffles before school from 8:15am - 8:45am

Notre Dame Agriculture Students Explore Dookie Food & Fibre Day

By Ruby Emanuelli & Isabella Beggs , Year 10 Students | June 11, 2025

On Friday, May 30th, students from Notre Dame College's Agriculture program attended the annual Dookie Food & Fibre Day at the Dookie Agricultural College. The event offered an exciting hands-on opportunity to explore a wide range of careers and innovations in the agricultural industry.

Throughout the day, students visited interactive workshops, showcasing key areas such as beekeeping, farriery (horse hoof care), vet nursing, biosecurity, and natural food production. Each workshop was aimed to educate and inspire young people considering a future in agriculture, animal care, or food science.

The Dookie campus, a branch of the University of Melbourne, regularly hosts educational events to connect schools with real-world agricultural practices and professionals. The Notre Dame students returned with a greater understanding of sustainable food systems, animal health, and the critical role biosecurity plays in Australia’s farming future.

We got to learn about different life skills and things that we can use in the future to become a farmer or work in the agriculture industry. Overall the Dookie food and fibre day was a great experience for students to learn more about the agriculture and farming industry. This day inspired many students and got them interested in farming careers.
