Congratulations to Bishop Shane Mackinlay

Yesterday evening, we were informed that Pope Leo XIV has appointed Most Reverend Shane Mackinlay, currently the eighth Bishop of Sandhurst, as the new Archbishop of Brisbane. Bishop Mackinlay will replace Archbishop Mark Coleridge, who is retiring after 13 years as the Archbishop of Brisbane and 51 years as a priest. In his time as Bishop of Sandhurst, Shane has always been very present in Sandhurst schools, and we thank him enormously for his leadership during his tenure. More information about the appointment can be found below:

The New Building

Over the past ten months, the view from my office window has predominantly been the construction of the new Wellbeing building on the south side of the Knight St campus. It has been a hive of activity, with different trades coming and going and heavy equipment moving in and out of the space. It’s been fascinating to watch it all come together.

I have been able to do some site visits in recent times and see the spaces that have been created for our learning diversity programme. Our Wellbeing Support Service and the House areas for junior MacKillop and McGann are going to be fantastic assets for our College community. We hope to get some photos out soon to show everyone what it looks like on the inside of the building.

Over the term break, the construction company will be continuing with some landscaping so it can be accessed from the rear and side entry points and they will adjust their building site as they move onto the completion of the building that will use the St Colman’s bell tower. We anticipate to move into the main building very early in Term 3.

General Achievement Test

Our unit 3 and 4 students completed the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Tuesday. It was wonderful to witness the students going into the testing space, in uniform, ready to do their very best. Well done to the learning and teaching team on the changes they have put in place so families are fully informed about the GAT and students are given the very best opportunities for success.

Thailand Immersion

Last week we also held the final information evening for families of Year 11 students who are participating in the 10 day Immersion experiences to Thailand. Our first group leaves on June 27, and the second group on July 11. Both groups will follow the same itinerary and will be led by Catholic Missions Australia as well as supported by our own staff. An immersion experience gives the students an experience that goes far beyond being a tourist in another country – they are able to experience life, faith and justice from a new perspective. Our hope is to inspire them to live a personal sense of their own Catholic “mission” when they return home.

End of Semester

With the end of semester nearly upon us, many assessments will be underway in all year levels. Once again, I encourage students to have good study routines and ensure they look after their wellbeing during this busy time.
