As our students begin thinking about life after school, there’s no better time for families to explore what’s possible by visiting university campuses. Attending university open days—especially across our outstanding Victorian institutions—is one of the most valuable ways to help young people feel confident, informed, and excited about their future.
Open days offer a window into university life. From walking through lecture theatres and laboratories to speaking with academics, current students, and support staff, these events allow families to get a feel for the campus culture and uncover pathways, scholarships, and support systems that may influence course choice.
Whether your child is in Year 10 or 12, early exposure helps. It demystifies the transition, starts essential conversations, and builds confidence about future decisions. Many universities also offer tailored sessions for parents, helping you understand how to best support your child as they prepare for tertiary study.
Starting early enables families to map out preferences, compare campuses, and check prerequisites before subject selections lock in. Knowing the vibe of a campus, transport options, or accommodation availability can shape a student’s priorities and boost motivation.
Throughout July and August, Victoria’s major universities—including Monash, Melbourne, La Trobe, Deakin, RMIT, Federation, and ACU—host open days. A full list of dates and times is available on our NDC Careers website or click here Open Day Guide 2025.
We encourage every family to make time for a visit during the school holidays. The experience is eye-opening and can be the moment a student’s aspirations really come to life.
