Cultural Diversity at Notre Dame College

At Notre Dame College employs a Multicultural Education Officer, Akuot Wundit, who provides assistance to our students, staff and families.

The role of the Multicultural Education Officer is to:

• Assist families with the enrolment process
• Assist teachers to communicate with parents and other family members
• Meet regularly with students to develop learning goals and pathways
• Work closely with Heads of House and the Wellbeing Student Support Team to ensure the effective pastoral care of students
• Act as a support to the students where appropriate
• Create events to celebrate cultural diversity in the College community
• Assist with the communication between parents and the College
• Foster links between the College and families
• Liaise informally with community members
• Encourage parents to take part in College events and activities
• Attend Parent / Teacher meetings, Subject Information evenings, Notebook Deployment sessions and other College events with families
• Explain College policy and procedures to students and parents
• Assist families with completion of forms and applications
• Arrange interpretation services when required
• Develop contact with services and resources in the community so that parents can be informed of available help
• Inform Heads of House about family circumstances that may impact on student learning

Cultural Diversity Leaders

Our students are supported by our 2026 Cultural Diversity Leaders, Batul Mgoter and Noor Mgoter.

Our Cultural Diversity Leaders help to create an inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone feels respected and valued. They encourage active participation and ensure that our multicultural students and families have a strong voice within the College and the wider community. In their roles, they work closely with the Multicultural Officer, who supports and guides them in fulfilling their responsibilities within the College.

The Cultural Diversity Leaders promote and give students a voice to the cultural diversity of students and families in the College community.

• having the ability to represent the College community in the area of cultural diversity and to take a leading role in this area within the College
• demonstrating creativity and energy in student involvement in cultural diversity projects and events
• keeping the school body informed about cultural diversity initiatives within the College via assemblies, the College Newsletter and social media, and the daily bulletins
• coordinating and/or assisting in various cultural diversity initiatives/projects within the College.

Career Focus Goal Setting Workshop

Overview

This workshop is designed to empower students from culturally diverse backgrounds to reach their full potential and achieve their personal and professional goals.

About the Workshop

Students will have the opportunity to attend interactive presentations and networking sessions with local professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Through these sessions, participants will:

• Gain valuable insights into a variety of career pathways
• Receive practical career advice tailored to their unique experiences and aspirations
• Build connections with mentors and industry professionals who share similar cultural values and experiences
