Our first group of Year 7s left for their camp on Monday, and I have had reports from the staff with them that everyone is having a positive experience. The importance of camps is student development is widely documented – they promote personal growth by providing opportunities for students to step outside of their comfort zones, building resilience, self-esteem and confidence. They develop teamwork and social skills through activities that require collaboration and communication, helping students develop important social skills. Importantly for our Year 7s, they build relationships with new students and staff very quickly at the start of the year.
We continue to consolidate, refine, and strengthen the way we go about our work with students, with the goal of making a meaningful difference in every classroom. The implementation of Magnify Sandhurst has re-shaped how all schools in the Diocese operate, helping us create calm, orderly environments that support learning, and deepening our shared understanding of the science of learning. These improvements ensure that the time we spend teaching has the greatest possible impact. It was interesting to talk about this with some students recently, who are noticing the consistency of approaches across all their subjects. As always, Term 1 is full of events, with more camps, swimming sports for Year 7 and 8 students and for competitors in Years 9 to 12, school photos, and Opening Mass all ahead of us. I would like to encourage all our students and families to check for any SEQTA messages for these events as they come closer.
