This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity. The Trinity is one of the key elements of our Catholic Faith and one of the great mysteries of how we understand God.
The belief of the Trinity teaches that God exists as one God in three distinct persons being Father, Son (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit. These three persons are fully divine and share the same essence or nature, while also being distinct in their roles and relationships within God. It is not something we can easily understand but sits as a key foundational belief of who God is and requires a level of faith to fully comprehend.
We are reminded of the Trinity every time we join in prayer together when we begin with the Sign of the Cross. In this action of moving our right hand from forehead to stomach to each shoulder is a reminder not just of the importance of the cross but also the nature of the God we worship as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Our students at Notre Dame College from their first days in Year 7 are introduced to this important ritual and very quickly come to learn that when this ritual is initiated it is time for prayer.
May we all come to grow in relationship with our Triune God and find regular moments to connect with God through our own prayer and reflection.
