Advisory Council Expression of Interest

Notre Dame College is seeking expressions of interest from parents and friends to join our Advisory Council.

The Advisory Council supports the Principal in strategic planning and school improvement. It collaborates with the local parish, involves parental and community input, supports the Principal's accountability, encourages parent engagement, and provides a dialogue with the CESL Executive.​

The Notre Dame College Advisory Council is intended to:

• Provide a voice for members of the school community.
• Actively support, in collaboration with the local parish, the vision, and Catholic identity of the College.
• Provide input into and support strategic planning and directions.
• Provide input and contribute advice in the processes of school improvement and school review.
• Support the Principal in meeting his/her responsibilities and accountabilities for educational outcomes, effective stewardship of resources, and annual reporting.
• Actively support the Principal in the encouragement of parent/guardian engagement.
• Support the ongoing sustainability of the Council and its members in its succession and learning.

Apology Breakfast

Friday 13 February marked the 18th Anniversary of the formal apology to Indigenous Australians for forced removals of Australian Indigenous children (often referred to as the Stolen Generations) from their families by Australian federal and state government agencies.

The apology was delivered by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in 2008, and is also referred to as the National Apology.

Notre Dame College was proud to attend the Apology Breakfast auspiced by the Shepparton Region Reconciliation Group as we have done for a number of years now. In attendance were our College Leaders, both students and staff, along with our First Nations students.

Melbourne Museum’s Road Safety Interactive Incursion

Our Year 11 VM students recently participated in the Melbourne Museum’s Road Safety Interactive Incursion. The program focused on four key areas: safe cars, safe roads, safe speeds and safe road users.

Students developed an understanding of why road deaths have significantly decreased since the 1970s, exploring important safety measures such as seatbelts, speed cameras, drink-driving testing, lowering speed limits and advances in computerised vehicle technology.

Throughout the session, students rotated through a series of engaging, hands-on activities. These included exploring what the human body would need to be built like to survive a crash, designing safer vehicles and road environments, participating in the “Road to Zero” experience, and completing a road rules quiz focused on safe behaviours.

Students were encouraged to reflect on important questions such as: What choices will you make to keep yourself and others safe? and What would you like your school to know and do about road safety? Ideas included developing a school road safety plan , leading to a key local issue raised by the students; the need for a safer crossing point between the school and the nearby shop - something everyone agreed would make a positive difference!

Shrove Tuesday

On Tuesday we celebrated Shrove Tuesday.

In Catholic tradition, Shrove Tuesday marks the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. It is a day of preparation for the Lenten season, a time of penance, fasting, and prayer.

The word "shrove" comes from "shrive," meaning to confess sins and receive absolution, which is an important part of Catholic practice as a way to spiritually prepare for the more solemn season of Lent.

Shrove Tuesday is also a day of celebration and feasting, as it is the last opportunity to indulge in foods such as eggs, sugar, and butter, which were often given up during Lent. The day symbolises a final moment of enjoyment before entering into the discipline and sacrifice of the Lenten fast.

The tradition of eating pancakes on this day comes from using up these rich ingredients before Lent begins.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is a special holy day in the Catholic Liturgical calendar. It marks the beginning of Lent, as we prepare ourselves to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday.

Our Faith Leaders Millie Gemmill and Isabella Lemma were given the opportunity to ask Father Adi about the day, which we engage in throughout the College each year.
