Refugee Week is a profound opportunity to live out the Gospel call to welcome the stranger and uphold the dignity of every human being. This year’s theme for Refugee Week is, “Finding Freedom: Diversity in Community” which resonates deeply with Catholic social teaching emphasising compassion, solidarity, and the inherent worth of all people.
As a community we should always advocates for inclusive communities where refugees and asylum seekers are not only welcomed but empowered to thrive through access to education, employment, housing, and mental health support. We must see refugees not as strangers, but as brothers and sisters deserving of love and justice. This week is a time for prayer, action, and renewed commitment to building a society where everyone belongs.
Lord,
No one is a stranger to you and no one is ever far from your loving care
In your kindness watch over refugees and asylum seekers,
those separated from their loved ones, those who are lost,
and those who have been exiled from their homes.
Bring them safely to the place where they long to be,
and help us always to show your kindness to strangers and those in need.
Amen
