New Uniform Code

Our transition requirements and updated uniform codes are now available on our website:

https://www.notredame.vic.edu.au/ndc-community/uniform.

Students in Years 7 and 10 in 2025 are required to be in new style uniform items with the exception of the wool jumper and soft shell jacket. Students in Years 8, 9, 11 and 12 can wear the older style items and replace these with the newer style items when they are outgrown or outworn up until the year level when required to be fully wearing the new uniform styles.

For example, if a Year 8 student has outgrown their grey shorts they are able to purchase the new navy style shorts and wear them with the older style shirt until they start Year 10. Previous style items are currently still available at Noones uniform shop at 50% off normal prices while stocks last. There are also many secondhand items available at the sustainable schools website https://www.sustainableschoolshop.com.au/

For the remainder of 2024, we acknowledge that for Year 9 students, there will be a need for some flexibility as some new uniform items may not be available until early November and students may have already grown out of summer uniform items. We ask that in these cases, parents supply a note to request a uniform pass for their child to wear other uniform items eg: PE uniform or winter uniform items until they are able to purchase the replacement new style items. A hybrid version uniform of old and new styles is permissible for these students until the beginning of 2025.

Immersion Programme 2025 - Thailand

Notre Dame College is pleased to announce the return of our Immersion Program for 2025. This program will be available to Year 11 students (2025) and aims to ‘immerse’ them in another culture. The College will be partnering with Catholic Mission to offer two immersion experiences in Thailand in 2025:

  • Thailand Group 1: 27 June to 6 July 2025
  • Thailand Group 2: 11 July to 20 July 2025

An ‘Immersion’ is an educational programme designed to provide students with the experience of immersing themselves in a local community and culture, to gain an understanding and appreciation of cultures different from their own, viewed from a faith perspective.

The students will spend time ‘being with’ the local people, listening and learning. The hope is for students to return with newfound friends, to develop a stronger sense of self, understand their place in the World, and consider the direction their lives might take. They learn the importance of living simply and walking humbly in their life journey.

A Parent and Student Information Evening will be held in the Bishop Joe Grech Centre on Wednesday 9 October 2024 from 7:00PM – 8:00PM and will provide you with important details about the Immersion Experience and offer an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Students: Please complete and return the Expression of Interest form if you are interested in attending this evening: https://tinyurl.com/3tj8sdt4

Cool Heads

Congratulations Vanessa Sleeth

The Notre Dame community wishes to congratulate our Wellbeing Support Psychologist Vanessa Sleeth on her nomination for the AFL Victoria National Diversity and Inclusion Ambassador of the Year Award.

Vanessa has been recognised for her “outstanding work for positively impacting community football” in volunteering within the community and particularly the Mooroopna Football Netball Club. She provides support for young people from indigenous and multicultural backgrounds and at risk/disadvantaged youth. Furthermore, Vanessa works around increasing opportunities and community participation to connect young people with sporting clubs, supports and mentors.

She was also awarded a Telstra Football Country Grant for her work and will be featured in a Channel 7 documentary shining a light on women making a difference in the AFL clubs and communities.

To be nominated for the Ambassador of the Year Award, individuals are considered for the following:

  • Supporting pathways for Multicultural or Indigenous participants to participate in sport
  • Promote AFL to Multicultural or Indigenous Communities, including Cultural Festivals and AFL match day experiences.
  • Provide the AFL with advice around best practice to work with Multicultural or Indigenous groups
  • Promote a healthy Club/ League culture which provides a fair, safe and inclusive environment for all.

Notre Dame is beyond proud of Vanessa's dedication and hard work, and we wish her the very best in her future ambitions.

Notre Dame College Students Supporting People Supporting People

Notre Dame Students Kiera Shaw and Will Clurey, NDC's Social Justice Specialist Leaders for 2024, have not only been providing leadership and care at the College but have used their time, energy and drive in the community by volunteering for Azem Elmaz's “People Supporting People” food van on weekends.

As part of this experience, they have gained valuable insight into the hard work and dedication demonstrated by Azem and his team who provide meals for the local community, as well as raising funds for local soup kitchens and others in need.

However, the most significant lesson they've learned about Azem, is the unwavering compassion, love, and generosity he continually displays to the local community. His efforts are truly commendable and to be appreciated by all.

Both Kiera and Will are happy to chat to anyone about this incredible experience and about the latest fundraiser to support Azem in getting a new van to support our community hero.

Year 12 VM Personal Development Classes

This year three Year 12 VM - Personal Development Skills classes were required to complete units of work which focused on building leadership skills, organisational skills and the ability to work in a team on a community project.

The students have taken on the redevelopment of a garden at the Hume Well Being and Mental Health Centre. This has turned out to be quite a large and challenging task. The students have worked well in each of their class teams and made some good progress in planning and implementing stage one of the redevelopment.

Stage one involved removing existing plants and weeds, demolishing the irrigation system and beginning to level the site for paving and landscaping.

This project will continue on into 2025.

Italy Study Tour

The Italy Study Tour departed on Monday with 18 very excited students and three even more excited staff members - Mrs Nevill, Mrs Cormican and Miss Gallo.

First stop Rome.

We look forward to hearing about their adventure.

Terra Tomacachi Retreat Into Nature

Terra Tomodachi students spent an inspiring day in the natural environment replenishing their love for God’s creation and their leadership of our College’s sustainability programme.

The students first visited the Euroa Arboretum in the Strathbogie Ranges where local habitats have been regenerated over 27 magnificent hectares by a volunteer committee over the past 20 years.

The students then transferred to the picturesque Gooram Falls where they were able to connect with both the land and the water in unique and uplifting ways. This was the first ever Terra Tomodachi Retreat into Nature and something we are keen to build upon in years to come.
