For students in the Vocational Major and Employment Pathways programmes, we encourage them to use the examination period to complete work placement, as their timetabled classes will not be running. Those who wish to complete work placement instead of completing exams must submit their work placement paperwork to Workplace Learning Admin Officer, Belinda McMartin by Friday 14th November. Late submissions will not be accepted. Please note that timetabled classes will not be running during this period. Please be aware that if students do not undertake work placement, they are required to sit exams as per the exam timetable.
During the exam period, students are required to wear full and correct summer uniform. PE uniform is not allowed. Regular uniform policy will be in place during exam week; this includes the issuing of uniform infringements and detentions. Please be aware that students who attend out of uniform will be sent home to change.
As students experienced during Semester 1 exams, this uniform requirement is based on compelling research in cognitive psychology on a phenomenon known as "enclothed cognition," which explores how clothing can influence mental processes and performance. Studies show that consistent testing conditions can help protect against forgetting and improve memory performance. By creating a formal testing environment through uniform requirements, we aim to establish optimal conditions for our students' performance and memory recall during these important assessments.
This uniform policy also aligns with the requirements for VCE exams at the College, helping to establish consistent expectations and preparing our Year 10 and 11 students for their future formal assessments.
In the lead-up to the exams, students should engage in their own home study and complete any revision tasks set by their teachers. Additionally, we recommend that students make use of any practice exams that are available. These resources are designed to help students familiarise themselves with the exam format, manage their time effectively, and build confidence in their abilities.
Notre Dame College has partnered with Elevate Education, an organisation that provides a range of excellent exam study tools and resources. These resources are available to all students free of charge, and we strongly encourage them to make full use of this valuable opportunity.
