Last Friday we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption with a full school Mass. This is a very significant celebration in our Church’s calendar as we reflect on the Catholic belief of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, being assumed body and soul into heaven when she died.

It is significant for us as a community to celebrate this day as a school with our rich Marian history which flows from our Mercy and Marist traditions and in recognition of the name of our College - Notre Dame, which translated into English means Our Lady.

The celebration was even more significant as we farewelled Fr Joe Taylor, Parish Priest of St Brendan’s, who will retire next month. Fr Joe has a been a constant guide, support and spiritual pastor for our community for 13 years. He has always been a regular face around the College attending many staff and student gatherings and celebrating many of our liturgies. For many of our families he has also celebrated their Baptisms, First Communions, Weddings and Funerals and always has a kind welcome for everyone he encounters. We are going to very much miss Fr Joe here at Notre Dame College and wish him well with his well earned retirement.

Have a great week,

Brendan Lindsay
