Jensen Damaschino

Year 8 student, Jensen Damaschino just won the second round of the Australian Kart Championship (KA3 Junior), a result he says means more to him than people might realise.

Behind the scenes, there's daily sacrifices not only from himself but also his family - the late nights and travel are endless. Jensen credits his success to his family, they are always by his side, supporting him and encouraging him to be the best he can be, whilst helping him stay on track with his studies.

"There is a lot of travel involved in gokarts and I try to do my school work during races and in the car but it's very hard when you are focused on the mechanical and driving side of things."

Jensen is a member of the JGR team who he says have supported him in many ways, not only on the track but off the track both as a person and a driver. "I would also like to thank my sponsor Mynd Movement for all their support and work they do behind the scenes to help me achieve the most that I can."

Jensen's interest in gokarting started from a young age, "my motivation to start gokarting was going around the backyard in a little gokart and then seeing my brother start racing at a young age. I love the speed and adrenaline of gokarts and making new friends."

Jensen has been competing on the national stage for four years and said it has been a long journey with the hopes of many more years ahead - the ultimate goal is to become a race car driver.

Congratulations Jensen on a very impressive career so far, we look forward to seeing you on the Formula 1 track in years to come!!

Sports Academy - Netball

Last Tuesday, 26 May, the Netball Sports Academy headed to Melbourne where they were invited to watch the Melbourne Mavericks SSN Team training session from the front row at MSAC!

It was a great opportunity for students to see first-hand how the professionals do it, and how hard they train. A few of our students were lucky enough to be invited to particpate in part of the session out on court.

The girls then completed their own training session, which included putting their skills to the test on the super shot! (The Super Shot is a netball rule that allows Goal Shooters and Goal Attacks to score two points—instead of the traditional one—by shooting from a designated 1.9-meter zone inside the goal circle.)

It was a great experience for all those involved, and it sure has the girls eager to reach that level in the future.

Goulburn Murray District (GMD) Year 7/8 Badminton

NDCs Year 7 & 8 Badminton teams competed at the GMD Carnival held in Shepparton on 29 May.

The results were:

Year 8 Boys: Team Blue finished 3rd

Team Maroon finished 4th

Year 8 Girls : finished 6th

Year 7 Girls : defeated All Saints College in the Grand Final

The Year 7 Girls team now moves through to the Hume Region Carnival on 18 August.

Well done to all students who gave it their best!

Hume Football Carnival

After winning the Goulburn Murray District (GMD) Carnival held in May, NDCs Year 9/10 & 11/12 Boys Football teams good form continued at the Hume Carnival in Wangaratta on 2 June.

Played in very cold, wet & muddy conditions, the results were as follows:

Year 9/10 Team

Round 1 – NDC 9.9.63 def FCJ College Benalla 0.1.1

Final – NDC 10.8.68 def Catholic College Wodonga 8.10.58

NDCs best players were Kobe Freer, Levi Duffy, Nate Warrin, Clancy Keenan, Ryder Dudgeon & Sol Zak.

Year 11/12 Team

Round 1 – NDC 8.12.60 def Yarrawonga P12 College 1.1.7

Final – NDC 12.8.80 def Galen CC 0.0.0

NDCs best players were Jayden Thorne, Oscar Emanuelli, Clint Thomas, Lucas O’Hora, Judd Tamburro & Tom Hudson.

Both teams now move on to the School Sport Victoria (SSV) State Quarter Finals to be played in Melbourne – Year 9/10 Team will play on 13 August and Year 11/12 Team on 18 August.
